When the balloon is set and ready to be inflated, a fan that blows air inside the envelope is turned on. The lower part of the envelope is called an opening, or throat, through which the balloon is inflated and the air trapped inside is heated during the flight.

It is enough to open the balloon throat to let the air flow from the fan fill the balloon ,to establish its traditional shape. In a few minutes the envelope is filled with air and the balloon expands while lying on the ground. In that moment the pilot checks the inside of the envelope to ensure that everything is working correctly and is in perfect shape.
