Absolutely, there are different competitions depending upon the type of balloon.
Among gas balloons the best known competition is Gordon Bennett which is adistance race. In the last editions, after many years without appearance, Spain has returned to participate with a team formed by Anulfo González and Angel Aguirre. Hot air balloons involve tasks of accuracy where pilots try to achieve the impossible, to steer their balloons, which cannot be steered, to attempt to complete the tasks established by the competition director. To do so they use their experience and skills, their instruments and their intuition, to use the reigning winds, its different directions at various altitudes to “steer” the balloon close to the target.
