Why don´t hot air balloons have a landing gear?

Unlike the rest of the airships, as we have seen before, hot air balloons cannot be steered, so they land in many different places and terrains. A landing gear wouldn´t be practical in most of the situations. The basket has hardwood strips on the bottom part to skid upon landing . Since the landing speed is not usually high and the pilots choose the most suitable places, the landing, even without a landing gear under the basket, is absolutely safe and it is one of the funniest and most exciting moments of the flight.
