This knot is used in seamanship and mountaineering. It is used as a quick and secure mooring.

It is also used in ballooning to anchor the balloon to several fixed stations on a tethered balloon ride. This knot is very fast to execute. Here we show the clove hitch in the bight of a rope version. The advantage of this knot is that when releasing tension on the knot, we can adjust the length of the rope between the moored object and the fixed station. Even though at times it can be very tight it is just enough to move it on the carabiner, for example, to loosen it.
